PRESCOTT – The Nevada County 4-H clubs and FFA chapters are hosting the 2nd Annual Career Development Events on Tuesday, February 6, in  Prescott. Headquarters for the event will be the Nevada County Fairgrounds. More than 700 students from 52 schools and 4-H counties participated in last year’s event, and early registrations point to a similar turnout this year.

The contest will consist of Jr and Sr livestock judging, Jr and Sr Forestry, Land, Poultry, Vet science, Agriculture Business, Wildlife, and Agronomy.

Volunteers and staff from organizations such as Nevada County 4-H, Prescott FFA, Nevada FFA, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Southern Arkansas University Agriculture Department, University of Arkansas Livestock Judging team, and specialists from University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture prepare the contest. The Nevada County Economic Development Council helps with the hospitality room. Local 4-H members and leaders serve as group leaders at the contest sites. Lunch is provided to all participants, teachers, and volunteers by Farm Credit Services.

The preparation of the Land Judging pits and maintenance of the grounds by the City of Prescott and the Nevada County Road Department are instrumental in the event’s success.

Winning teams and high point individuals will receive plaques. This contest is quickly developing a reputation for being the top preparatory event for the upcoming District and State FFA and State 4-H Contests.
