Rosston applying for ACEDC grant

ROSSTON – Rosston’s City Council approved a resolution to allow Mayor Dale Quarles to apply for an ACEDC grant in the amount of $500,000 at its April meeting Monday night.

The council discussed applying for the grant at it March meeting, but a resolution was required before the community could officially apply. The grant can be used for one purpose, and it was decided in a public meeting in March to use it to upgrade the Rosston Rural Water System. The plan is to use the funds to purchase an automatic generator that comes on when the power goes out and doesn’t have to be manually started, moving some water lines out of creeks, adding a chlorine injection system and burying exposed pipes.

“I think we’ll get the grant,” he said, “and it will be a bit benefit to the water system.

In other business, Quarles said another bill has been paid off so the city’s finances look better.

As the meeting came to an end, he reminded the council a softball tournament for Sgt. 1st Class Young will be played on April 29 at the local softball fields. He asked all council members to attend adding it would be great if all veterans in the area attended as well. The tourney begins at 9 a.m.

He added members of the Rosston Volunteer Fire Department were recently certified for CPR and first aid. During the training, Quarles talked with the trainer, Christa Gray, about possibly getting an ambulance substation in the Rosston area. He will be talking to representatives of Pafford Ambulance about it as well.
