Spring Hill School Board


The Spring Hill School Board met in the Cafeteria on Monday (10-9). First was a report to the public in which the district goals were listed: to educate all children in a way for them to be prepared for college or career readiness and to provide a safe and secure environment and meet the needs of individuals to the best of their ability. Another goal is to work with all of the stakeholders along with staff and students to accomplish the goals and mission.
Board members are required to receive 6 hours of training annually, new members are required to receive 9 hours. The training is offered in October and November of each year.
Asbestos in the old main auditorium and in the storage building have been properly maintained and are checked bi-annually per state requirements.
Spring hill school district has a debt service of 16.8 mills, maintenance and operation 25 mills and combined total of 41.8 mills.
Total Elementary Enrollment is 354, up from last year’s enrollment of 331.
A variety of programs in reading and phonics were detailed..
The ACT Aspire Results showed in English Skills, nearly all students are at least close if not ready or exceeding. Math skill need more work with 21% needing support in third grade and 15% in 5th. Science was more of a challenge except in 5th grade with 3rd grade needing the most support. Lastly. reading needed the most support with 51% falling short in 3rd grade and 19% in 5th grade.
Current and upcoming testing dates include: until Dec 22nd Dynamic Learning Maps Fall Window (Resources Grade 3-10), until Dec 15th Fall ACT Work Keys Assessment, Octo 10th-Dec!% Civics Exam Window, Oct 17th Fall ACT (11th Grade), Oct 31st ACT Make-Up Date. Other tests will begin in January.
The School Board meeting included buying walkie talkies for the principals and bus drivers which was approved. Buying of a set of computer tables was put off. There was a discussion on whether or not to join the COOP which would cost $5800 once a year. A motion was made to approve it which was seconded and passed.
The catastrophic leave policy in which teachers can donate days to other teacher was also approved.
There was a petition from a student to transfer from Hope School District. The student had started Home Schooling because of COVID and wanted to graduate with her class in 12th Grade. She had been a student previously of Spring Hill and was known to be a good student. The motion passed.
The family leave policy was brought up and tabled.
The School board accepted two resignations – that of a cafeteria worker and a teachers aide.
