Wolves end season perfect in conference

PRESCOTT – Thursday night’s game was over before Horatio’s players boarded the bus to make the trip to Prescott.
The Wolves did little wrong as Prescott posted a XX-XX win over the Lions. Prescott ends the season with a 9-1 overall record and 5-0 in 5AAA play. Horatio finished 1-9 and 0-5.
Getting first downs proved to be victories for the Lions as the visitors had fits moving the ball offensively. Prescott, on the other hand, had no drives longer than four plays and scored on eight of 10 possessions in the first half. An interception on the first play and time expiring in the second quarter were all that stopped the Wolves from scoring on every possession. Prescott’s coaches started subbing early in the second period and by the end of the frame, were pretty much playing the second string – which showed it could move the ball against the Lions.
Horatio was undersized and out manned. The Lions had no answer for Prescott’s strength or speed. Once a Wolf broke the line of scrimmage, it was off to the races.
Now, Prescott will prepare for post-season play and will host the Palestine-Wheatley Patriots in the first round of the AAA playoffs next Friday night.
The Wolves posted a 56-0 lead at the end of two, putting the mercy rule in effect to start the final 24 minutes. However, the mercy rule could have been invoked earlier had both coaches agreed.
The game started with Prescott receiving and falling on the ball at the Wolf 13. Pierce Yates was picked off immediately, with the ball returned to the five. Horatio had an opportunity to score early, but couldn’t find a way through Prescott’s defense, even with the help of an offside call. A fourth and goal from the two saw the Lion runner stuffed for no gain.
Ja’Noah Harris carried twice, first for 12 yards, followed by an 88 yard run for six. The point after made it 7-0 with 10 minutes showing. For the remainder of the half, Horatio did it’s one, two, three kick dance routine, while the Wolves scored lightning fast, not taking more than four plays. The first quarter ended with Prescott up 42-0. Prescott added two more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 56-0 halftime lead.
The Lions did start the second with the ball, but Decari Prater picked off a pass at midfield, returning it for a touchdown. It was that kind of night, as the Wolf offense tried to get as many young players in the game and end zone as possible.
The mercy rule was in effect to start the second half. Horatio returned the ball to its 34 and drove 66-yards for its only score of the night, taking 11 plays and most of the quarter.
Takayden McKillion caught a line drive onside kick attempt at the Wolf 47. Prescott managed three plays before the buzzer sounded ending the period. The Wolves subs finished the drive four plays into the final 12 minutes with Brownlee going in from the 10. The PAT doinked off the crossbar leading the score 62-7.
The Lions were in good field position, returning the kick to the Prescott 30, only to see the fourth interception of the night.
Prescott set up shop at its 19 and drove to the Lion 44 before going backwards as the game came to an end. Eight different Wolves scored on the night.
The Wolves will be at home again Friday, Nov. 10 as Prescott hosts the Patriots of Palestine-Wheatley. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
