Family traditions almost always involve food and recipes that are passed down through generations. To celebrate the upcoming holidays and spotlight those traditions, the Nevada County Depot and Museum is hosting a Community Recipe Exchange.

“We are inviting anyone in the region to bring a favorite recipe to add to the museum’s foodways archive,” says museum director, Jamie Simmons. “It’s also a great chance to copy recipes from others or to look through some of our vintage cookbooks.”

This is a free event, but participants should bring at least one recipe to share. Recipes can be modern or vintage. Donated recipes will become part of the Depot’s Southwest Arkansas Foodways collection. The depot will offer samples of some historic recipes from the collection for guests to taste.

“The Depot is planning on making a few dishes that our ancestors swore by along with a few recipes of dubious origin,” added Simmons. “There will be a savory jello recipe for the very brave.”

Participants are encouraged to bring a sample dish to share, but it is not required. Guests can drop in the afternoon of November 18 any time between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. For more information or directions, please email TheDepotMuseum@gmail.com or call at 870-887-5821.
