Hope School Board

The Hope School Board met in the High School Auditorium Tuesday (12-12). After the call to order and approval of last meeting’s minutes and expenditures there were community recognitions. Those recognized included: students Autumn Flenory and London Cheatham for leading the progression of the EAST and Project the Way programs and their planning of the YMS Christmas parade float. Shameika Roberts is always supportive and involved in her child’s education. Nancy Bradford has been serving student with the same passion and caring for 45 years. Santrece Staten shifts on the fly and helps where she is needed. Ale Mae Flenory allowed the Yerger EASTt program to participate with the Yerger Alumni Association in showing off the Yerger Museum.
Following the recognitions there was a Christmas concert performed by students of the Clinton Primary School. The recognitions and the concert were well-attended. Clinton Primary grew a grade this year in terms of performance and implemented a number of things such as 84 walkthroughs. The magnet team was so excited about finishing their projects that they showed up during recess to do the work. There were 2,500 less days missed than two years ago. Clinton Primary recognizes a Star student and gives a golden ruler award for those most improved. Students want to be there and not miss the dance parties that take place – three songs at the end of the day.
Clinton Primary will have the full Christmas concert on Thursday. The principal stated everyone is welcome to attend and said people were also welcome to come and read to the students.
For the High School presentation the idea of a school project was mentioned to the board. The district is happy hear community requests. There is a new requirement by the state starting with the 9th grade class for 75 hours of community service in order to graduate. The parents will be notified and it is part of the counseling plan. There was motion to accept by Miss Moss which was seconded and passed.
Digital Cinema for the High School was the next item. The Board accepted the middle quote by Ivan Smith for $3,700. The goal is to build out all of the digital assets. This will be very much hands on. It will take multiple years to get s fully formed project. A motion was made to approve the quote which was seconded and passed.
The next topic was NIET (National Institute for Excellence in Teaching). This would involve Yeager, Clinton and CATS. It js funded by grant funds from the state and provides funding for coaching, facilitators, content and principals. There was a motion to approve the acceptance of this grant. It was seconded and passed.
A digital effects quote was next considered. This involves beautification and hundreds of thousands of dollars. An idea was suggested by a Board Member of a facelift for the lockers and sanitation for school games. A coach stated it had been much improved already. There was a motion by Johnson which was seconded and passed to approve the digital effects.
There was a facilities rental request to be considered for Hope Bobcats Youth Basketball. Miss Moss made a motion to accept which was seconded and passed.
The next item was the personnel packet which Miss Moss made a motion to approve and the motion was seconded and passed.
The last item was a closed student hearing in which the Board accepted the recommendation of Superintendent Dr. Crossley.
