Hope Civitan Hears From Carter Wilcox

The Hope Civitan Club heard from 9-year-old Carter Wilcox at its regular meeting on Tuesday, January 9.  Kind-hearted Carter, a third grade student at Clinton Primary, has created a means for all CPS students to be able to purchase books at periodic Scholastic Book Fairs held on campus.
Following a book fair, Carter expressed sadness that all his fellow students were not able to purchase books as he had and decided to do something about that.  Pictured at left at Civitan with his mom Kelly, dad Mark, and brother Wyatt, Carter formed Carter’s Class, a campaign to raise funds for every child to be able to buy one or more books.  His initial goal was to raise $1,000; and through speaking engagements, a bake sale, and selling flowers during the downtown Christmas open house, he has exceeded that goal — but does not plan to stop there.

Carter’s Class has been embraced by Scholastic Book Fairs and the company has agreed to match his efforts in providing books to students.  Anyone who wants to help Carter succeed on a larger scale may contact his family or make donations to Carter’s Class accounts at Farmers Bank or Bank of Delight.
The Hope Civitan Club meets at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Dos Loco Gringos Restaurant.  All interested persons are invited to attend a meeting.
