By Twyla Pruden/Hope Civitan Club , 04/2/24 9:57 PM
Mae Dulaney, director of the Hope In Action food pantry, is pictured with Hope Civitans Kim Smith (left) and Debbie Hines (right) as they present her the large Easter basket of goodies she won in a raffle conducted by the local Civitan Club.  Proceeds of the raffle will be used for the club’s community projects.
Also pictured is Summer Chambers, Hope Parks and Recreation director, drawing Dulaney’s winning ticket and handing it to club treasurer Hines.  Chambers, who also serves on the Hope Tourism Commission, was guest speaker at the club’s March 26 meeting and presented insight into events scheduled to celebrate the upcoming solar eclipse.
Those events, sponsored by the Tourism Commission, include Solar Shopping in downtown Hope, Saturday, April 6, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Solar Sounds Downtown, 6-7 p.m. April 6; a free concert by Mae Estes at Fair Park, with gates open at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 7; and Tailgating in Totality at the Hope Municipal Airport, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday April 8, with free eclipse glasses provided.
April is Civitan Awareness Month, celebrated internationally as well as locally.  The Hope Civitan Club meets the second and fourth Tuesdays each month at 6 p.m. at Dos Loco Gringos Restaurant.  Interested persons are invited to attend a meeting or contact a club member.
