In Loving Memory of
Mrs. Viney Marie Johnson
Viney Marie, a beautiful baby girl, graced the world with her presence on Tuesday, July 27, 1948, born to Thomas Charles Williams and Lula Mae Lomax Williams in Hope, Arkansas.
Known affectionately as “Mama Dear,” Viney dedicated over 30 years of her life to fostering children, touching the lives of over 350 young souls. Her selflessness and love were recognized with a certificate from Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, a testament to her commitment to nurturing and caring for those in need.
Viney’s journey was marked by steadfast dedication to education. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and went on to achieve her Master’s degree from the University of Phoenix. Her thirst for knowledge and passion for learning inspired all who knew her.
She pastored for over 20 plus years as a CME pastor, serving several CME churches throughout the First District, and was the Pastor of Goff Chapel CME Church for 13 years in McCaskill, AR.
In September 1989, Viney was first elected to the Hope Public Schools School Board, embarking on a 30-year journey of service and dedication to public education in Arkansas. Her devotion to the betterment of schools and communities earned her recognition from the Arkansas School Boards Association in January 2019. Throughout her tenure, Viney served as the financial designee to the board, ensuring sound fiscal management for the benefit of students and educators alike.
January was a month of special recognition for Viney, as she was honored during School Board Appreciation Month for her tireless efforts in January 2021. Her steadfast leadership and support for students and educators left an indelible mark on the community she served.
On March 28, 2024, Mrs. Viney Johnson gained her angel wings. Viney’s life was a testament to love and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Charles and Lula Mae Williams, and her sister, Cora Ann English.
