PRESCOTT – Jamie Hillery, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, spoke to the Prescott Rotary Club at its Tuesday meeting.

She told the club the Chamber is in “banquet” mode at this time, getting ready for the annual Chamber Banquet, scheduled for April 23 at the Prescott Junior High cafeteria. The banquet, she said, is sold out with 340 people expected to be there. The theme this year is “Show Up and Show Out”, with those buying tables asked to decorate them as they see fit. The banquet will include the usual awards: Citizen of the Year, Golden Treasure of the Year, Business of the Year, Student of the Year, Farm Family of the Year, Educator of the Year and Hometown Hero. This year, she added, there will be a new award, the Golden Star.

The Chamber, she continued, does different things, including coffees and ribbon cuttings. At this time, Hillery is working on the Chamber’s 2023-24 annual report, which should be out Aug. 31. She pointed out five board members are rotated in and out every year, all being volunteers. She added the Chamber is a 501(c)6 organization and is considered a non-profit, getting operating funds from the city and county, along with donations. All the money, she said, goes back into the community.

Hillery said the Chamber’s website provides people with information about upcoming events, via the community calendar, and lets potential new residents know about issues such as utilities.

She pointed out the farmer’s market annual meeting will be May 7 and any farmers in Nevada or surrounding counties who may be interested in selling produce should attend.

In other business, incoming President Bo Young said she has six ticked left for the “Eat Anywhere” drawing. The winner of this contest will literally be flown anywhere in the world for a meal. Of course, the winner will also have the option of taking $2,500 in cash. Tickets are $25 each and only 400 will be sold.
