Josh Williams gave the Hope Lions Club an update on the Hempstead County Historical Scoiety on Monday (4-22).  He explained the group meets monthly, usually the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Presbyterian Church in Washington.  He offered the club an invitation to attend the monthly meetings.

Williams also shared some information about artists who were from Hempstead County whose work is now on display at Historic Washington State Park.  These include Jenny Eakin Deloney who was born in Washington and eventually lived in New York City.  He also highlighted Mary Carrigan who was from Washington and lived in Hope.  Carrie Caruth was also highlighted.

The Lions were also surprised to learn that one of the later artists, Helen Bittick, painted about forty works of art depicting Hempstead County Churches and those paintings are displayed at the First United Methodist Church of El Dorado.

Anyone wishing to learn more about the Historical Society can contact Williams at 870-703-8256.
