Hope’s Scout Troop 5 built bird houses to prepare for the Holcim-Wildlife Habitat Conservation Event being held Saturday, May 18th in Prescott.  Holcim is hosting the youth at their facility which is the old Firestone plant. They have a natural area that is dedicated for opportunities like this.
Coordinator Justin Smith has several activities planned for the participants. Those include putting up the bird houses and planting trees. There will be educational classes in the plants and animals found in the area. Some subjects will be requirements for Scout Merit Badges. Assistant Scoutmaster Robert Wright is working with Mr. Smith to obtain the trees.  Assistant Scoutmaster Ed Flagg provided the plans for the bird houses and precut all the wood for construction. Holcim purchased all the materials. Assistant Scoutmasters Betty Wright and Amanda Greer are assisting with the classes.
Any youth interested in the Scouting program should contact Scoutmaster Karen Smith at 870-703-1138. This promises to be a fun event. Holcim plans to make this an annual day of conservation at their facility.
Holcim is supporting Scout Troop 5 by helping send Scout youth to Summer Camp in June.
