Volunteers give books to kindergarten students

PRESCOTT – It was all about books and the importance of reading.

Friday morning volunteers with Hamilton Haven went to Prescott Elementary School to tell kindergarten students about the Hamilton Haven House and give them books to take home. The volunteers split into two groups, hitting two kindergarten classes simultaneously. The students were told how a former teacher and Prescott native asked her brother and sister to help find a way to buy a house to make it a crisis center for those in need of emergency housing.

The students were told how people pitched in to buy and remodel the house, sharing their time, money, energy and skills in the process. In 2020, they were told, Hamilton Haven opened its doors. The house offers temporary relief for families and individuals who may have lost their home for some reason.

The children were also told the importance of reading and how it opens the world of learning for them and provides a road to their success in the future. They were all given books to take home and keep.
