NHS names honor grads

ROSSTON – Six students will graduate with honors from Nevada High School. Graduation is set for Thursday, May 16, at 7:00 p.m. in the gymnasium.

Brycten Harris, son of Heather and AJ Jones and Roderick Harris and Jessica Jack, will graduate with highest honors.  He is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, and the Bluejay basketball, baseball, track, and golf teams.  He is an Arkansas Scholar, one of five Seniors of Distinction, and received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence.  He has served in the position of class officer the past four years, coached and refereed pee-wee basketball, and accumulated around 200 community service hours as a member of the National Honor Society.  He has competed in several FBLA competitions and received 1st and 3rd place awards in UX-Design. Brycten has contributed to several titles in basketball including four district/conference championships, one regional championship, and state runner up.  He has also earned two All conferences, one All-state conference, and second in the player of the year in 1A basketball.

Harris plans to attend Hesston College as a student athlete and study mechatronics.

Makenzie McMullan, daughter of Christie McMullan and Tim McMullan, will graduate with highest honors.  She is a member of National Honor Society and the NHS Prom Committee.  She has served as junior class treasurer and currently serves as local president of Future Business Leaders of America, senior class secretary, manager of the school yearbook, and is a member of the Lady Jays’ volleyball team.  She is one of five Seniors of Distinction, an Arkansas Scholar, senior homecoming maid, Miss NHS, and Student of the Year.

McMullan plans to attend Southern Arkansas University Tech and pursue a career in cosmetology.

Alexis Smith, daughter of Alan and Misty Smith, will graduate with highest honors.  She is a member of the National Honor Society, Book Club, Choir, Prom Committee, Christian Club, Future Business Leaders of America, and the Lady Jays’ volleyball team.  She received 1st & 4th place in Introduction to Business and 4th place in Economics at district FBLA competition.  She is an Arkansas Scholar and received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence.

Smith plans to attend Southern Arkansas University and major in business.

Zekiah Strickland, son of Aaron and Tracy Strickland, will graduate with highest honors.  He is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Government, Future Farmers of America, Prom Committee, Band, Choir, Gifted and Talented Program, and Esports Team.  He is an Arkansas Scholar, one of five Seniors of Distinction, and Student of the Month.  He received ASBOA 1st band solo and ensemble and the President’s Award for Educational Excellence.  He is one of two seniors recognized by Governor Sarah Sanders on Governor’s Scholastic Honors Day for excellent academic achievement in the senior class.

Strickland plans to attend Southern Arkansas University and major in computer science.

Clay Walraven, son of Susan Walraven and Gary Walraven, will graduate with highest honors.  He is a member of the National Honor Society, one of five Seniors of Distinction, an Arkansas Scholar, and received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence.  He is one of two seniors recognized by Governor Sarah Sanders on Governor’s Scholastic Honors Day for excellent academic achievement in the senior class. Clay is on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll at UAHT and will graduate with an Associates of Applied Science in Electromechanical Technology.

Walraven plans to further his education at Southern Arkansas University to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.

Madison McMullan, daughter of Christie McMullan and Tim McMullan, will graduate with high honors.  She is a member of the National Honor Society, Lady Jays’ volleyball team, Future Business Leaders of America, and an Arkansas Scholar.

McMullan plans to attend the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and pursue a career as a veterinarian assistant.
