Spring Hill School Board

The Spring Hill Board met Monday (5-13) in the Elementary Board Room. The meeting started with a welcome to everyone. The minutes were approved as was the financial report.
The Elementary School has an enrollment of 368. The Teacher appreciation week was held with 44 businesses and individuals donating prizes. There was CPR training for 5th and 6th graders. The science fair was finished out. The winners were 1st place Maicyn Yocum, 2nd place Emma Johnson, 3rd place Trulee McNeil and Cannon Chambers. Honorable Mention went to Jacob Minton, Hadley Parrington, Emy Hill, Lyle Harper and Westin Curtis.
For the High School all the testing is done, there was a day of fun, and a teacher appreciation week was held. Summer school first session will start on June 3rd. There will be a senior awards ceremony at 9 am in the cafeteria and an FFA banquet on Thursday at 6 pm at Bethany Baptist Church.
The Senor graduation will take place on Monday (5-20) at 6 pm at Hempstead Hall. The last day of school is on the 24th. The second session of summer school will be in July with Ms. Moore teaching.
The salary schedule was considered but not voted on. Personnel issues were discussed in Executive session.
Miss Ashley Davis talked about Network Switches with the district receiving an award of $55,565. These switches are at end of their useful life, so their replacement is very important. These switches relate to computers and telephones and each building have at least one. There are 21 switches total. There is a 3-year warranty on them. There was a motion to give White Waters the contract.
The next issue was switching from “Go Guardian” to “Blocksi”. The program keeps students focused and off certain sites. There was a request to do professional development on this program. There was a motion to try out Blocksi for a year with significant savings resulting in paying $5,574 instead of $9,372).
Computers have a four-year rotation. The Mac laptops can be used with Apple TV. The computers are approaching their end of life. A laptop costs $999 alone and $11-12,000 with apple care. The board discussed if the laptops could be sold and there was no definitive answer. A motion passed to get the laptops for one year.
Core crew for the summer was approved with Mr. Cooper and Crew doing the work. $20 per hour each for 2 crew members was approved.
Special Education extended school year with fifteen extra days was approved. Two teachers will be paid $40 per hour..
