Vanhook’s journey to this esteemed recognition is as inspiring as it is remarkable. Transitioning from roles as an instructor at the VanHook Career Center and serving as a substitute teacher, she embraced an opportunity as a paraprofessional in Camden. Fate intervened when, the 5th-grade Math teacher resigned, and Vanhook was offered the position. Embracing the unexpected turn of events, she embarked on a path that led to her current role as a 5th-grade Math and Science teacher.

Reflecting on her journey, Vanhook attributes her success to a guiding force beyond mere happenstance. “I truly believe that when God has something for you, he will open doors that no man can close,” she shared, underscoring the profound sense of purpose that propels her career forward.

Vanhook brings a wealth of academic credentials to her role, holding a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Organizational Psychology and nearing completion of her Masters of Art in Teaching (Elementary Education), expected in December 2024. Drawing inspiration from acclaimed educator Ron Clark, she infuses her classroom with innovative teaching methodologies, emphasizing the importance of building strong relationships with students and their families.

Equipped with a deep commitment to student success, Vanhook has actively pursued professional development opportunities, including participation in the Innovative School Summit for at-risk students. Her dedication extends beyond the classroom as she currently serves as the Adult Instructor for the G.E.D. program in Nevada County at the Prescott Nevada County Library and Educational Facility.

Expressing gratitude for the unwavering support received along her journey, Vanhook acknowledges the pivotal role played by her support team and those who believed in her during moments of self-doubt.

In addition to her professional achievements, Vanhook finds fulfillment in her roles as a spouse to Carlos VanHook and as a parent to three children, Colby, Carlos Jr., and Carly.

Vanhook’s selection as Teacher of the Year stands as a shining testament to her exemplary contributions to education and her unwavering commitment to empowering students to achieve their fullest potential. As she accepts this esteemed accolade, she continues to inspire and uplift the educational community with her dedication, passion, and relentless pursuit of excellence.
