Spring Hill High School graduation took place at Hempstead Hall on Monday evening (5-20). The National Anthem was performed by Mrs. Merits Wylie and the Invocation said by Andrew Wylie.
Mr. Ronald Smead, the High School Principal gave the welcome noting it was the students’ night to shine and welcomed everyone to participate in the celebration of the ending of one chapter and the beginning of a new one.
Mrs. Presley Capps, the College and Career Counselor said she stood there with a lot of pride as it wasn’t simply about their academic accomplishments but also the students’ dedication, perseverance and resilience. Over $1,370,000 was raised in scholarship money demonstrating how great things can be accomplished. The students have had a profound influence on the community.
David McGuire gave the Salutatorian Address thanking everyone who had gotten him there. He said despite being told high school would fly by, the class didn’t think it would go by as quickly as it did. McGuire talked about the memories they would carry forward as well as the new ones to be made. He noted some advice his mother had given him and that was, “be a kid, enjoy these years and don’t rush them by… don’t settle for less because of fear of failure, and don’t stay angry because life is too short to carry a grudge”.  McGuire challenged each and every classmate to see this not as an end but as a beginning of something very special and to face the future with courage.
Jakob Perry as the valedictorian said he and his classmates held both an overwhelming sense of achievement and pride as well as a tinge of sadness at the farewell to the school. When he moved to Spring Hill, he never imagined be would be valedictorian. Basketball became a sanctuary and helped make him the person he is today with the teamwork and comradery. Perry thanked the teachers for their guidance, parents for the love and encouragement, and his fellow classmates for the memories and friendship.
There was a presentation of roses with childhood pictures of the students being displayed at the same time.
Mr. Smead presented the diplomas and Jack Flowers did the benediction.
