May Wetter, Cooler Than Normal in Hope

May in Hope proved to be cooler and wetter than normal. According to statistics from Hope’s official weather station, the Southwest Research and Extension Center just east of town, total rainfall for May 2024 was 10.89 inches. That compares to a normal May tally of 5.46 inches. Hope finished the month up 5.43 inches from normal. The year-to-date rainfall at the end of May was 35.94 inches. That compares to a normal tally at the end of May of 23.60 inches meaning rainfall for the year is up 12.34 inches above normal.
The average air temperature for May was 67.77 degrees, compared to a normal average May temperature of 69.90 degrees meaning May was 2.13 degrees cooler on average than normal. The coolest low temperature was 53 which came on May 16th. The high temperature was 90 degrees which was recorded on May 20th, 21st, and 26th.
