Fairhills EHC attends state meeting
LITTLE ROCK – Members of the Fairhills Extension Homemakers Club of Nevada County attended the State Meeting of the Arkansas Extension Homemakers Council June 4th-6th in Little Rock, AR. There were 7 members from Fairhills EHC in attendance.
The week consisted of classes both educational and crafting. Some of the educational classes attended by Fairhills EHC members were Cooking with Herbs, Weather Watching, Be Aware! Situational Awareness, Caregiving for the Caregiver, How to Utilize your Small Appliances and Edible Landscapes; and the best of all was Get Your Game On: Be an EHC Queen! Club members learned great information through the Educational Classes to bring back to Nevada County and share with our community.
Some Fairhills EHC members also attended craft classes. The classes attended were Snow Sock People, No Sew Scandinavian Star and Diamond Dot Art. The State AEHC meetings were well attended. Old acquaintances were renewed, and new friends were made. EHC members are some of the friendliest people and most courteous people one can meet. They are dedicated to keeping EHC alive and prosperous! The final meeting of the week was held on Thursday June 6th with a special program presented by The Pleasant Hill Quilters of Linden, Texas. The Pleasant Hill Quilters came together for the first time in September 2004. The initial intent was to make a quilt based on the book, “Hidden in Plain View”, for a Black History program in February 2005. Their mission: to help maintain the historic Rosenwald school building, now called the Pleasant Hill Center. Their purpose: to use quilts as a media to entertain, educate, create awareness and healing of America’s unsavory past. For those who don’t know, during Civil War times, quilts were used by the Underground Railroad to guide slaves to safety after the war.
After the Pleasant Hill Quilters presentation, AEHC installed new officers who will serve for 2 years.
