Southwest Arkansas Beekeeping Association Hold Fundraiser in Hope

The Southwest Arkansas Beekeeping Association held a fundraiser at Atwoods in Hope on Saturday (8-3).  The food was donated by Atwoods. Four hundred hot dogs were sold.  The money is used to pay for training events.
The Southwest Arkansas Beekeepers Association holds meetings, hands-on workshops and classroom training for member beekeepers and the public. Their activities are free, and anyone interested is welcome – You do not have to be a member to participate.  Their classes and workshops are typically in Hope and Nashville and the surrounding communities, and they maintain an apiary in Nashville where they offer “Hands-In-The-Hive” beekeeping training. They also meet quarterly at Hempstead Hall on the University of Arkansas Hope Campus. The quarterly meetings typically begin with an educational program presented by a guest speaker followed by a short business meeting. Anyone interested in more information about Southwest Arkansas Beekeepers may visit the website at https://swabeekeepers.orgUpdates on all events and new scheduled activities are posted on our Facebook page. There is a link to their Facebook page on their website. Vice President, Carla Farmer, organized Saturday’s fundraiser and is a good contact for anyone interested in the organization. Her phone number is (303) 502-0746.
The organization started in Nashville and grew to the point it split into three different groups. There is a Dequeen organization and a Texarkana one as well now. Members are from a variety of places such as Hope, Emmet, Arkadelphia and Texarkana.
After the fundraiser, former president and beekeeper James Jones said he was going to a church to install a bee escape. This allows the bees to escape from a building but makes it difficult for them to return.
