Hope School Board

The Hope School Board met in the Administration Building on Thursday (9-26). The meeting started with an update on special education and options the district had for covering its needs as well as approaches used by other districts. While the options the state has given were discussed including the approach HPS tried, because of the complexity the district isn’t ready to have a full discussion on the topic yet.

A topic introduced was a transition to the workforce for special education students with internships for 11th and 12th grade students. 7 students are already registered and 13 more have expressed interest making a total of 20 or more that are anticipated to participate.
The next issue was the approval of the budget. While the budget passed, board member Bill Hogland explained his opposition to it being the lack of addressing the bus driver’s concerns and the lack of a salary schedule for the teachers.
Which science curriculum should be adopted was discussed with the decision to approve Savvas Science Core. The curriculum adoption period is five years.
For the American Rescue Plan Expenditure Approvals, all of the $9.2 million will be expended on acquiring Learning Loss Materials. Motions passed to accept the Cadmet care program, supplemental reading materials, expenditures for UAHT Acceleration, and Savvas.
There were three closed student hearings after which the recommendations of the superintendent were accepted in each case.
The meeting adjourned.
