Hope Lions Hear Program From Arkansas Game & Fish Educator
The Hope Lions Club heard from Mickey Bivens, an educator for the Arkansas Game & Fish. Bivens works out of the Rick Evans Grandview Prairie Conservation Education Center near Columbus.
Bivens noted Grandview is offering some dove hunting opportunities and also offers a limited amount of deer hunting tags. He noted the Grandview deer hunt has about 40 tags available and last year more than 800 hunters applied for them.
Bivens covers an area from Polk County to Garland down to Lafayette to Union. He presents programs at schools, churches, parks, and other meetings. He not only gives educational programs but also on resources available through the Game & Fish.
Other services offered by Bivens include mentoring fishing and hunting classes. He does both onsite programs and also hosts offsite field trips to Grandview.
Many of the questions Bivens was asked were about alligators. He gave some facts about gators and noted locally they’re very helpful in keeping the nutria population down at Millwood.
Bivens answered questions about Grandview and noted the facility’s nearly 5,000 acres comprises the largest contiguous area of Blackland Prairie left in the U.S.

Bivens was invited to the club by Lion Mary Hughes who is shown here with him after the program.
