ArDOT preparing for statewide winter storm
WINTER STORM PREP:
– ARDOT has a stockpile of 85,000 cubic yards of salt
– ARDOT’s salt supply is distributed between 116 salt houses across the state
– ARDOT has 31 tanker trailers used to pre-treat roads
– ARDOT has a fleet of more than 600 snowplows to clear roads
– ARDOT’s Strike Team is activated during winter weather events. The team is made up of employees from our statewide sign, striping, and milling crews and they assist District crews in pre-treating and clearing roads.
– Crews will finish pre-treating roads by Thursday morning. Then it will be a matter of plowing and re-salting as needed.
– Crews will be working around the clock until we see this storm through
– Check IDriveArkansas.com for the latest road conditions.
WHAT’S EXPECTED:
– The entire state is expected to see significant wintry precipitation. The majority of the state could see 4-10 inches of snow. The southern part of the state will see less snow, but more ice.
– The weather is expected to begin mid-morning Thursday, with the weather coming in from the western part of the state. The storm should continue through Friday, covering most of the state.
– A wet snow is expected, which means slushier conditions. Wet snow is better for making snowmen, but worse for driving. Please stay off the roads if you can.
ARDOT will be working hard to keep you safe. Help us help you.
