Michael Joseph “Mike” Stephens, 89, of Blevins

89 year old Michael Joseph Stephens, know to everyone as “Mike”, passed away April 1st in Texarkana. He was born August 2nd, 1935 in Prescott at the Cora Donnell Hospital to P.C. “Cavy” Stephens and Maurine Stephens.

Mike was a 1954 graduate of Blevins High School and graduated from Henderson State University in 1958 with a B.A. In Chemistry.

Mike participated in R.O.T.C. At Henderson and entered the U.S. Army upon graduation. He served two years and spent part of that time in Germany. He was called back up during the Berlin Crisis and served a year at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

Following his military service, Mike worked for First Commercial Bank in Little Rock for 10 years and returned to the family business, the Bank of Blevins, where he retired as President.

He was a member of Bruce Memorial Methodist Church in Blevins and of VFW Post #4511 in Hope.

He was predeceased by his parents and his wife of 52 years, Nell Price Stephens.

Survivors include his brother Paul and wife Jenelle of Benton. He is also survived by two nephews, Dr. Scott Stephens of Fayetteville and Phillip Stephens of Little Rock.

Mike loved his hometown of Blevins and was a pillar of the community. He was loved for his story telling ability and his friendship.

A memorial service will be held Saturday April 12th at 2pm at Bruce Memorial Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Marlbrook Cemetery, P.O. Box 144, Blevins, 71825.
