Investigation underway by Prescott Police of band boosters bank account

PRESCOTT – The Prescott Police Department is continuing to investigate the alleged theft of funds associated with the Prescott Band Boosters. Detective Daniel Autry recently mentioned the alleged theft in his report to the Prescott City Council, statting it involved approximately $40,000 dollars.

According to a Reasonable Cause affidavit filed in Nevada County Circuit Court, Autry stated he was contacted by a concerned citizen in reference to an alleged theft that had been occurring over the past several months. Autry met with an officer of the Band Boosters after it was discovered the group’s bank account apparently had a negative balance.

The reviewed bank statement dated in early December allegedly showed several transactions for multiple items such as small dinners at select locations, payment for streaming video services, payment to automotive shops for vehicle repairs, payments to veterinarian hospitals, along with multiple miscellaneous purchases and multiple cash withdrawals.

Bank statements allegedly showed the account having approximately $19,453.81 and at the time the investigation started, the account has a negative balance of $-1055.68. The affidavit stated “during the course of December to present approximately $22,346.66 was allegedly spent or pulled from the account.

April 24th, Detective Autry, according to the affidavit, had an interview with Kenoshia Brown, who is the group’s treasurer. The court document stated Brown was read her Miranda Rights and initialed that she understood her rights and signed stating she waived her rights and agreed to talk to the detective. Brown allegedly stated she was a member of the band boosters and was one of three members who had access to the account. Brown stated she was given a debit card and a check book and she had set up the debit card n her phone as tap to pay.
