Barbara Jean “Babs” Bridges Barnes – Update #1

Barbara Jean “Babs” Bridges Barnes passed away in Prescott, Arkansas on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

She was born in Malvern, Arkansas, on June 16, 1934, to Tobie and Mary Kratz Bridges.

Barbara grew up in Camden, Arkansas, along with her four siblings, who are all deceased. She attended Henderson State College (University). In 1954 she married the love of her life, James David Barnes, who preceded her in death. She was raised a Baptist, but she and her family moved to the First United Methodist Church of Prescott in the 1960’s. She loved her Church and participated in many activities such as giving children’s sermons and assisting with communion. She was also a soloist with the choir. She worked for many years for the Nevada County Cooperative Extension Service. She was a member of the Prescott Tri-Service club and held various offices including president of that organization. She was a member of several bridge clubs over the years and enjoyed these social gatherings immensely. She was also a wonderful cook.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Dave Barnes of Little Rock and Doug Barnes of Prescott. Additional survivors include Gail Barnes, grandchildren Jay Dee Barnes and wife Katie of Hope, and Tomi and husband Jeremy Hendrix of Prescott. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Curt, Sadie, Grant, Delta, Hudson, and Biddie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her honor be sent to The First United Methodist Church of Prescott.

Arrangements are pending but will be announced by Brazzel/Oakcrest the Funeral Home of Hope.
