Someone said before Tuesday’s (4-7) Hope Kiwanis Club meeting that many of their best programs come from within the club. Tuesday’s program certainly counted as one of those. Retired Circuit Judge and long-time Kiwanian Randy Wright talked about the death penalty and the ramifications of its use. Judge Wright detailed some situations where the death penalty might be a valid judgement. On the other hand, he noted the feelings that jurors and judges might experience if they truly were faced with possibly sentencing someone to death. It wasn’t a program that had one correct answer. Instead, it was a program that was thoughtful and left the audience with something to think about. The club greatly enjoyed Judge Wright’s presentation.
On a side note, it was noted April 8th was both Judge Wright’s birthday and his older brother George’s birthday. George Wright quipped he wanted a cap pistol bur his birthday but instead got a baby brother!
