Hope’s Scout Troop 5 made their annual Buffalo River /White River trip on
Spring Break. Staying at Scout Cap Orr on the Buffalo River, the Scouts
floated 21 miles in two days in canoes and a kayak. The Scouts hiked Lost
Valley, did cave exploring and got to see the Arkansas Elk herd and numerous
wildlife.
Staying at White Hole Resort on the White River the Scouts were treated to
breakfast and lunch by the owners of the resort and were given guided trout
fishing trips on the White River by professional guides. Everyone caught
rainbow and brown trout.
Troop 5 also toured the Jim Gaston Bull Shoals Dam Nature Center and hiking
trail. They were the guests of T L Lauerman at WAPSI Fly company in
Mountain Home. This is an annual tradition at Wapsi Fly who through T L
teaches and supplies Troop 5 Scouts with fly tying lessons and the kits to
make their own fishing flies.
The Scouts were hosted by the Fly-Fishing Organization at the Norfork River
Trout Hatchery. They were taught how to use their fly-fishing tackle to
catch fish. Then the Fly-Fishing Guides took the Scouts fishing on Dry Run
