On Monday May 4th, the Hempstead Hall auditorium was filled with amazing sounds of music as the Hope Bobcat High School bands as well as the eighth-grade band put together an incredible concert. Leading off was the eighth-grade band, led by Mia Davis, then the High School Concert Band, led by Brian Silva, and finally the High School Symphonic Band, led by Head Band Director Christian Davis. The group performed a total of nine pieces, three from each band.
After the rendition, we asked leading man Chris Davis a little bit about the Hope band program:
Reporter: How long have you been a band director?
Chris: “This is year eight for me, and my sixth year in Hope.”
Reporter: How many students are in these bands?
Chris: “The Yerger Middle School group has about fifty-five, while at the high school, we have about eighty kids overall, with half of these in the Concert band and the others in the Symphonic Band.”
Reporter: How long have these bands practiced this music?
Christ: “With us going to concert assessment recently, we have only had this music for two or three weeks.”
Reporter: With the large amount of awards your program has won, what is the one you still want the most?
Christ: “Well, we just earned our state sweepstakes, which was the one we have been trying so hard to get the last few years. Last year did not go so well for us, but this year our kids put on a great performance, with the judges giving us exceptionally good remarks, winning us the sweepstakes award.”
