Blevins City Council

The Blevins City Council meeting was called to order by the mayor on Tuesday, May 5th at 7:00 PM. Board members present included Jon Howell, Eric Smith and Kimberly Torres. Councilman Cassidy and Patterson were absent due to health issues. Lisa Arbour, Recorder/Treasurer was present.  An opening prayer was offered by the mayor. The previous meeting minutes were read and accepted. The financial report was presented and approved. There was one small water adjustment.
Old business included a brief discussion on the Sewer Remediation Project. Some documents are under review and waiting approvals before proceeding with the next steps.
The ARDOT Recreational Trails Program for the walking path improvements that the city had decided to participate in last month was briefly discussed. The City declined to participate in the program this year due to a much higher cost of more than $100,00 than was anticipated. Resolution 05-2026-1 was passed, declining the participation.
Free running dogs were discussed with no clear answer to this and the disruption and destruction it causes the community. Laws, ordinances and resolutions have little effect without enforcement, wherein lies the problem. The city will continue seeking ways to address this problem which plagues communities all across Arkansas. It’s primarily an irresponsible pet ownership problem.
Water system discussions were had over some meter and account issues. An internal audit will be conducted soon. Some accounts are way past due and lockouts will be ensuing. The council thanked Jon Howell for contacting the loggers working in the area adjacent to the sewer right of way and getting them to clear several trees that had blown over. Other water system discussions revolved around the upcoming water tank inspection next year and some needed repairs at both well properties. Kenny Hill will get quotes for the repair items.  Wellhead protection areas was discussed briefly but was tabled for now. Chlorine tablet storage solutions are being sought as a result of a previous survey finding fault with the way they were being stored. The water operator and the mayor will be seeking solutions for this as soon as possible.
The meeting was adjourned. The next regular scheduled meeting will be June 2nd in Blevins City Hall at 7:00PM.
