PRESCOTT – The Prescott Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, along with other members of our community, had the opportunity to help the Nevada County Extension Office with their “Get Real” program for 8th and 11th grade students.
We were excited to help present this hands-on program that teaches students real life financial management skills. Students learned about budgeting for major purchases such as homes and vehicles, along with insurance, utilities, and other everyday needs and wants. They were also shown how to write checks and manage a check register.
Each student was given their own checkbook, along with an assigned occupation, salary, and family size, and challenged to make financial decisions while staying within their budget.
It was a fun and rewarding morning spent with the students in our community, helping prepare them for real world responsibilities and financial success!
