On June 2nd, 2011, a Hope staple was founded on the corner of Main and Division. Fifteen years later, John and Sharon Caldwell’s Tailgaters Burger Company is still thriving and has served thousands of customers with “Good Times and Good Food”.
In honor of this remarkable achievement, we interviewed Mrs. Sharon about her business and how her business has helped the community:
Reporter: In your wildest dreams, did you ever think your business would be so successful?
Sharon: “Well, I always hoped and prayed it would! In the beginning, we had a few people tell us that we wouldn’t be able to make it very long. We just kept pushing and pushing, and we could see the dream, we built it.”
Reporter: Do you know how many teenagers you have hired to work over these 15 years?
Sharon: ” I believe we’ve averaged around 15 to 20 per year, so times that by 15.”
Reporter: Thousands of customers have walked through those doors over the years, who are a few of the most special?
Sharon: ” A few would be Richard and Rosita Hogue, Birkett and Barbara Wylie, and Jack Gathright. What we’ve learned about this place is that it’s like family. Our customers will sit with new customers and introduce them to the others.”
