HOPE – Each year, National Higher Education Day celebrates the value of postsecondary education and the opportunities it creates for students, families, and communities. While four-year universities often receive much of the attention, community colleges play an equally important role in helping students achieve their educational and career goals. In fact, community colleges educate nearly 40% of all undergraduate students in the United States, making them one of the most important entry points to higher education and workforce training in the nation. At the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana (UAHT), students have access to affordable, high-quality University of Arkansas System education that can lead directly to rewarding careers or serve as a pathway to a bachelor’s degree.
For many students, community college is the smartest first step toward a brighter future. Affordability is one of the greatest advantages of attending community college. Rising college costs have become a concern for many families, but UAHT provides an accessible option that allows students to earn a degree or certificate without accumulating significant debt. By completing general education courses at a significantly lower cost, students planning to transfer to a four-year institution can save thousands of dollars while staying close to home. Many, and in some cases, all of these courses can be completed while students are still in high school through concurrent credit or the UAHT collegiate academies.
In addition to transfer opportunities, UAHT offers a wide range of career and technical programs designed to prepare students for in-demand jobs throughout Arkansas and the region. Programs in nursing, welding, cybersecurity, construction technology, industrial maintenance, HVAC, diesel technology, teaching, emergency medical services, and many other fields help students gain workforce-ready skills that employers are actively seeking. These programs provide hands-on learning experiences that prepare graduates to enter the workforce quickly and confidently. Students can also earn many of these technical credentials while still in high school through the UAHT Secondary Career & Technical Education Center.
Scholarship Opportunities Through the Arkansas Future Grant
One of the most significant opportunities available to UAHT students is the Arkansas Future Grant, commonly known as ArFuture. This state-funded program helps remove financial barriers for students pursuing careers in high-demand fields.
Through ArFuture, eligible students can earn more than 25 degrees and certificates at UAHT with tuition and mandatory fees covered. The grant is designed to strengthen Arkansas’s workforce by supporting students enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs and other regional high-demand areas of study.

The ArFuture Grant is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Students must complete the FAFSA and meet eligibility requirements established by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education. Fall semester applications are due by July 1.
Beyond ArFuture, UAHT also offers numerous institutional and foundation scholarships to help students further reduce educational expenses and achieve their goals.
