EMMET – The Emmet City Council met on June 18th at 7pm. The previous meeting’s minutes were reviewed and approved. Jay Click with Southwest Arkansas Planning and Development District was present to discuss with the board about grants for the city of Emmet.
Mayor Ogwell said that the trash truck the city was using would need $40,000 worth of repairs over the next few months for.
Mr. Click said that if the city could get a census of medium income from the citizens by the end of July, Southwest Planning could talk to the city’s engineer immediately. There was a passed motion to get the ball rolling on that project. This is to straighten out who the city sends water bills to.
Deanna Allen asked about a wording that Mr. Click said. She asked what defined as a “small grant”. He said that a small grant would be $30,000 or less.
Mayor Otwell said that the copier was broken. He asked the board if it was ok if he could buy a $2,400 copier. The motion passed.
Deanna Allen gave a report on EVA and community board. Mrs. Allen’s husband made magnets to use for the community board. He painted the magnets gold, to match the blue board, to reference the blue eagles, Emmet’s school mascot. For the 4th of July, EVA has a lot planned. There will be fireworks, Nighthawk, a country band, food trucks and seating. The fireworks will be set off after 9:15 PM. There will be patriotic music played as fireworks are being set off. The pyrotechnic company setting the fireworks off has a $1 million liability policy just in case something goes wrong. The pyrotechnic also requires the fire department to be present just in case something goes wrong. The farmer’s market is going well. The last known market balance is $1,233.70.
The mayor said that he would get a budget put together for each dept. of how much the city needs to spend each month.
There was a passed motion to adjourn.
