With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Royce Dale Buffington, who passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the age of 78.
Royce was a man of quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and a heart that found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He spent many years working in the oil field, where his strong work ethic, determination, and willingness to lend a hand earned the respect of those who knew him. When he wasn’t working, he looked forward to any opportunity to be outdoors. Hunting and fishing were among his greatest passions, and he cherished the peace they brought him. Whether he was spending time with his beloved wife, Judy, sharing stories with family, or simply sitting outside watching the world go by, Royce made those around him feel at home. He believed in hard work, taking care of the people he loved, and living life on his own terms. Above all else, Royce’s greatest pride was his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, resilience, and countless memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His guidance, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Royce is survived by his devoted wife, Judy Buffington; his Mother Virginia Buffington; his son, Clyde Buffington; his daughter, Chrissy Butler; his grandchildren, Justin Burns (Yana), Autumn Willrich (Henry), and Bonnie Jestin Burns; his cherished great-grandchildren, Ethan, Rosie, and Selena; his siblings; his many beloved nieces and nephews; his many cousins; extended family; and countless friends whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Buffington; his grandmother, Carrie Ruddle; and his grandparents, Jimmy and Bertha Huett.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Patmos Cemetery, with Bro. Jamie Knighton officiating, under direction of A.O. Smith Funeral Homes, Inc,
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that his pain has ended and that the love he gave so freely will remain with us forever. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Patmos Cemetery in Royce’s honor.
