The Emmet City Council met on Thurs (7-16). The meeting was kicked off with a prayer. Mayor Ottis Otwell said the city didn’t have any way to record the meeting. Deanna Allen said that she was recording for SWARK.
The council approved the minutes from the previous meeting. The financial report was considered and approved. Grant Cox made the mayor aware that they are losing money from the street department fund. He asked if that was something the city needed to consider. Mayor Otwell said there were a lot of people that needed to be paid. Mayor Otwell also said the old pump went out and there is a new one ordered. The mayor also said the council would look into the street fund shortage.
There was no record from the last meeting on whether the council voted to approve the copier purchase. The council then voted to approve the copier purchase. There was also discussion to about getting a handheld water meter reader. The council voted to purchase the device.
The council moved onto new business. Grant Cox suggested when the weather is better to give the two newest councilmembers a look at the tools the city has.
Deanna Allen gave the Emmet Vision Association report. She noted the 4th of July celebration went well. She did note where the city mows the area from which the fireworks are detonated, an unlevel area could lead to a mishap. Allen made the council aware of “Trunk and Treat” which is planned for October 31st. She said there were a lot of new vendors, but not as many customers. Allen also discussed a situation with the Farmers Market. The park committee, which is over the market, presented a resolution to the situation which involved a vendor. The meeting then adjourned.
