HOPE – As the new school year is soon approaching, we are coming closer and closer to it being time for the Hope High School marching band, The Sound of Hope, to begin their 2026 season. The band, featuring 95 up and coming talents as well as a fair amount of returning musicians, has been working tirelessly through the ever-lingering heat this summer to put their new show, entitled, “Patchwork”, on the field. In compliance with this, we decided to write a preview of their much-anticipated show for this year, as well as learning about the band’s goals for this year and their future. To learn more about this, we interviewed Christian Davis, Hope High School Director of Bands, now beginning his seventh year.
To open, we asked Mr. Davis about the meaning of their new show. In response, he said, “Put simply, our new show is about connecting as individuals together. Right now, our band is lacking a lot of connection as an ensemble and so this piece is meant to bring us all together, making us stronger than we were before”.
In recent years, the Bobcat band has been seen wearing a large variety of colors and themes for their show uniforms. According to Mr. Davis, one exciting addition has been made; for the first time in nearly 20 years, new traditional uniforms will be worn by the band! Donning red, white, and black, The Sound of Hope will wear their newly acquired uniforms at the Bobcat football home games, as well as their annual parade appearances. The uniforms will feature black pants and black undershirts, as well as a sharply designed red, white, black, and gray vest. Most prominently, they will also feature similarly styled plumed hats.
In conclusion, we noticed on the wall of the band hall a red banner signifying the nine years that the infamous Robert Hesse Hope High School Marching bands won the Arkansas Governor’s Cup, the precursor to the State Marching Contest. In front of this banner was an array of trophies that have been won in recent years, marking the return to success for our school’s band after a period of lackluster performances. This sight sparked us to ask Mr. Davis one final question, “With all of this success, what are you hoping to achieve this year and in the future”? Mr. Davis answered, “With all of these kids’ hard work and dedication to winning, truly, I simply want these kids to have a love for music. At the end of the day, it’s not about winning, because nobody will remember our triumphs in the future, so I hope that these kids will continue to have a love and passion for music. That is what success means to me and our program”.
The Sound of Hope’s opening performance for the 2026 season will be at the first home game of the Bobcat football season, against the Mayflower Eagles on September 4th.
