The Hope Lions heard a program from Bo Walker, Director of Operations of Banner Hope, on Monday (8-24). In addition, Walker pastors New South Fork Baptist Church in Gurdon near the truck stop off I-30.
Walker has a history of recovery. He noted he spent about 16 years in the throes of addiction and was finally able to recover after being tricked into going to church. He said he later led his father to the Lord and his sister as well.
Walker had worked with treatment ministries in the past. He heard Banner-Hope had grown dormant after losing funding and contacted founder Daniel Bramlett and worked with him to get it restarted.
The program works to help men recover and get sober. Banner-Hope recently partnered with the Hope Public Schools and is working to renovate the old Brookwood/Edith Brown Elementary School on South Spruce into a facility for men in the program. They’re hoping to house a couple of dozen soon at the facility with the hopes of eventually hosting over 100.
