Nevada School News update

ROSSTON – Nevada had Pee Wee practices for girls on the 25th but none for boys due to the home volleyball game. The next practice is this Sunday (August 30th). For 3rd and 4th grade girls the time is 1-2. For 5th and 6th grade girls it’s 2-3. 3rd and 4th grade boys will be from 3-4 and 5th and 6th grade boys from 4-5.

This September the District is challenging all of the Elementary students to dive into good books in order to build their reading skills. Parents can help by encouraging 15-20 minutes reading daily and by celebrating the reaching of goals. The goals for each grade are mentioned on the school website.

The Mental Health Series for September (6-8 CST) covers many themes. These include suicide prevention, building a child’s confidence, stopping the bullying cycle, tools to support a child’s mental health and many other topics.

Blue Jays Tennis Schedule is posted. The next game is on August 31st against Murfreesboro and Gurdon and will be played in Murfreesboro at 4.

Nevada High School is working in conjunction with Casey Carlton – owner of Tri Electric – on an Electrical Pre Apprenticeship Program. Three students are taking advantage of the program. They are Brandon Wilson, Logan Langston and Colton Burns. This program is given through the Department of Labor and is facilitated by Drake Givens. The district would like to do HVAC and plumbing as well.

The Pee Wee basketball schedule is posted. The first game is at Emerson on September 9th, and the next one will be against CCS at home on September 8th. Times aren’t listed.
