HOPE – Families immersed themselves into the 2026 Miss Hempstead County Fair Pageant on Saturday, August 29th. The event was held at the Hope Fair Park Coliseum, hosting an overflow crowd of about 350 family members, friends, and other fans. 41 total contestants divided into 11 age groups competed against each other in the fight for the Hempstead County crown.
Shortly after the pageant finished, we caught up with newly crowned Miss Hempstead County, Sadie Miller. She is a graduate of Spring Hill High School.
Reporter: How long have you been participating in pageants?
Sadie: “This was my very first pageant that I have been a part of actually.”
Reporter: How do you feel after winning?
Sadie: “Oh, great! It was super fun and it was an experience I’ll never forget.”
Reporter: What do you most look forward to?
Sadie: “I look forward to hopefully being an inspiration to the younger girls so that one day they will want to do the same thing.”
After this, we turned to the next in line winner, 2026 Junior Miss Hempstead County Jade Joy. Jade is a resident of Patmos who is currently a sophmore at Spring Hill High School.
Reporter: Have you been competing in pageants for a long time?
Jade: “I have competed in contests such as this since I was two.”
Reporter: What’s your response to winning Junior Miss?
Jade: “I’m very excited and I am so happy I was able to participate!”
Reporter: What do pageants such as this mean to you?
Jade: “I think that it is great that all of these young girls, including myself, can have the courage to walk onto the stage in front of whole bunch of people and to be able to walk and talk. It takes a lot of courage and it helps to build it too.”
Finally, we checked up on long-time coordinator Suzy Powell, to get her thoughts on the pageant:
Reporter: How long have you been directing beauty pageants?
Suzy: “My daughter and I have been directing this for 10 years.”
Reporter: What is the benefit of these pageants for these girls?
Suzy: “I think it helps these girls to gain a lot of confidence, they are able to make a lot of friends, and it also helps them to learn a bit about where they live and their community.”
Reporter: What is your benefit from this?
Suzy: “Oh, I love it. I absolutely love it. Just being able to watch them smile and to be happy makes it worth it!”
