PRESCOTT — The Nevada County Depot Museum has announced the launch of a community fundraising campaign to raise $15,000 in support of critical restoration work at the historic 1912 Missouri Pacific Depot located on West 1st Street in downtown Prescott. This project is part of The Depot’s ongoing efforts to preserve a key piece of Nevada County’s cultural heritage.
The museum was recently awarded a $30,000 grant from the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program to repair and restore The Depot Museum’s original brick concourse and accessibility ramp—essential features that have welcomed travelers and visitors for more than a century.
“We are so thrilled to have been awarded this grant,” said Museum Director, Jamie Simmons. “The AHPP is a vital program for historic preservation in Arkansas. We wouldn’t be able to start this project without this assistance, but we still need a little help.”
As part of the grant requirements, the museum must provide a cash match, and with a limited operating budget, community support is vital to unlocking the full grant award. The fundraising campaign launch has already raised $3,000 in private donations. The current goal is $15,000.
The restoration project will address damage to the original brick concourse caused by ice during winter weather earlier this year. This project will preserve one of Prescott’s most recognizable landmarks, improve safety, and increase accessibility for all visitors while maintaining the original architecture. The Depot Museum is asking individuals, businesses, and supporters of local history to help meet the match and ensure this important work moves forward.
