HOPE – The Hope Police Department is mourning the loss of retired K9 Officer Rojo, a 12-year-old Belgian Malinois who faithfully served the department and community throughout his career.
Rojo began his career with the Hope Police Department in March 2016. During his years of service, Rojo played an important role in numerous investigations, helping officers locate illegal drugs and assisting in the apprehension of suspects.
Throughout his career, Rojo demonstrated the dedication, courage and determination that make K9 officers such an important part of law enforcement. His work helped keep officers and members of the community safe and his contributions will not be forgotten.
Rojo officially retired from the Hope Police Department in January 2026, ending a career filled with countless calls, searches and successful deployments.
Following his retirement, Rojo traded his police work for a much more relaxed life at home with Corporal Justin Dean. His days were spent doing some of his favorite things — being lazy, playing ball and, as his retirement privilege allowed, eating whatever he wanted.
While Rojo was no longer chasing suspects or searching for narcotics, he remained a beloved member of the Hope Police Department family and a cherished companion to Corporal Dean and his family.
The Hope Police Department extends its condolences to Corporal Justin Dean and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with Rojo. Rojo’s paw prints may no longer be seen around the police department, but his legacy of service and loyalty will remain a part of the Hope Police Department for years to come.
Rest easy, Rojo. Thank you for your service.
