HOPE – The November 3rd meeting of the Hope City Board opened with recognition of two mayoral proclamations. The first proclamation brought attention to National American Indian Heritage Month, acknowledging the contributions of American Indians that have enhanced the freedom, prosperity, and greatness of America.
The second was a proclamation of November 1st as Extra Mile Day. It encouraged all residents to take time to go the extra mile in their own lives and to recognize those who inspire others through their commitment to making their community, nation, and world a better place.
The first discussion item on the agenda was a Wastewater Rate Study Analysis Presentation. City Manager JR Wlson said, “We have known for some time that wastewater revenues are insufficient to service our wastewater operating and capital needs as well as provide sufficient reserves for emergencies.” The Board
authorized staff to hire a professional company to conduct a rate study. Vita Quinn with FCS, a Bowman Company, was on-line to present the City of Hope Wastewater rate study analysis and answer Board questions. Staff will need Board guidance regarding increasing wastewater rates prior to finalizing the 2027 budget.
2027 Health Insurance Discussion took up about an hour of the meeting. According to the agenda, City of Hope 2027 Health Insurance costs are increasing by 30% for both the Traditional and High-Deductible Plans “due to our loss experience.” Charles Angel with JTS discussed reasons for this increase and answered Board questions regarding strategic options. The High-Deductible Plan option was approved, and department heads will be meeting with employees and insurance representatives.
At the end of the meeting, there was brief discussions involving features at the new aquatic center, park, and new firehouse.
