UW helps with prevention of domestic violence

HOPE – United Way’s mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world and advance the common good.   United Way of Hempstead County helps support many local business that focus on improving the lives in our town.

Domestic Violence Prevention, Inc. is just one of the non-profit businesses that United Way lends a helping hand. Domestic Violence Prevention has been providing shelter and twenty-four hour crisis intervention since June of 1980.  The United Way funding has been secured for 37 years for our agency. Domestic Violence Prevention offers shelter and safety, counseling, support group, advocacy and legal assistance along with court accompaniment and a battering Intervention Prevention Program.  Domestic Violence Prevention of Hempstead county assisted 260 victims this year.  Domestic Violence also has a group of translators on standby to facilitate intakes and interviews as needed.

We have a new employee Whitney Elmer ready to serve our victims.    Domestic violence prevention creates positive and permanent change for our victims.  We do not do this alone.  United Way’s assistance with funds gives our agency the way to empower victims and get services.  Pay it forward in your community and donate locally to your United Way.  This could be a family member of yours someday that is needing the assistance.  One and three people will experience domestic violence in their life time.  Donate. Donate. Donate.
