Rhodes inks with SAU
ROSSTON – Nevada High School’s Bryson Rhodes signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Southern Arkansas University.
The signing took place Wednesday afternoon in the Nevada gym during an assembly for the entire student body.
Rhodes is a two-time All State player, made All Conference three straight years, played on the Texas State American Legion championship team and went to the American Legion World Series in Nebraska where his team made it to the semifinals. At Nevada, Rhodes pitched and played shortstop.
Nevada Superintendent Rick McAfee said it’s not every day an athlete excels in more than one sport, such as Rhodes, adding Rhodes gave a lot back to the school. McAfee said Rhodes led Nevada High School to its first regional title last year, is the president of the student body and student council, along with being president of the FBLA, while ranking at the top of his class academically.
McAfee said Rhodes is an impact player who will make a difference when he steps on the field for the Mulerider baseball team.
McAfee recognized the entire baseball team, along with all four basketball teams and the cheerleaders, reminding the rest of the students these athletes need their support so everyone can succeed. He said each and every one of them put in the time it takes to succeed, adding if the rest of the student body works hard on its academics and athletics they, too, will be a success in life.
Rhodes was surrounded by family members, along with the BlueJay baseball team and cheerleaders. Students in the fourth grade made signs congratulating him for getting a full scholarship to SAU.
