OYEA selling sausage as fundraiser

PRESCOTT – A fundraiser of a different sort is being held by the OYEA program.
OYEA is the Organization for Youth Education in Agriculture and is the only one of its kind in the nation as students in the Prescott School District are provided with animals to raise and show at county, district and state fairs, keeping the money they earn while not having to be out of pocket for any of the expenses. The program’s fundraiser is offering both breakfast and summer sausage for sale, and is also raffling off half a processed hog. Well, both halves actually, with each half weighing roughly 150 pounds and there will be two winners.
Tickets for the raffle are $5 each or five for $20 and can be purchased from either Fred Harris or Dennis Guidry. The breakfast sausage is going for $5 per pound, while the summer sausage is $8 per pound. The breakfast sausage comes in mild and hot varieties. Sausage can also be purchased from Harris or Guidry. Harris said the program has about 550 pounds from the first batch.
Plans are for this to be an ongoing event to help the program be self-sufficient.
