Hope School Board


The Hope School Board met Tuesday for their regular monthly meeting. After the approval of the minutes and the expenditures new superintendent Dr. Jonathan Crossley offered his report.
Dr. Crossley led off with a “thank-you” to Maurice Henry for discovering a potential electrical issue and getting it resolved before school starts in August.
Dr. Crossley announced the new inductees to the Hope Schools Hall of Fame. They include Melba Hall, Mary Roy Moses, Margaret Miss, Johnny Turner, and Harrell Dickerson. Sue Ella Tye spoke on behalf of inductee Mary Roy Moses and told a humorous story about Miss Moses’ first salary experience under the first Jimmy Jones. Board member Bubba Powers spoke words of praise in behalf of the inductees.. The formal induction will be September 17th.
Dr. Crossley spoke about ESSER funds and the public comment process.
The Jones Field House renovation project was discussed and Dr. Crossley noted the state wants further details. He said Maurice Henry and staff are working to break down the plans for the state.
To wrap up the superintendent’s report, Dr. Crossley noted ACT Aspire test results are back and they’re analyzing that. He said that will be presented next month.
The board looked at some salaries including maintenance and bus mechanic salaries. The maintenance salary schedule will go from $11 to $11.64 per hour. The bus mechanic salary schedule was also upped to $11.64. These are beginning salaries. They were approved.
The board looked at purchasing a video surveillance system. This will be bought with ESSER funds. It was approved.
The board looked at student insurance. This has been what has been customarily carried by the district to protect students should they be injured. It was approved.
The board approved a $39,000 expenditure for disinfection of transportation facilities. The company is Ecovasive.
The board voted to allow KHOA-FM to continue to broadcast Hope Bobcat Football Games.
The board discussed equalizing some dental benefits between certified and classified personnel. This will be voted on next month.
The board looked at some student transfer requests. The students identities were known to the board but referred to as “student A”, “Student B”, and “Student C”. The Student A request was denied but the problem involved was solved. Student B’s transfer was approved. Student C’s transfer was not approved.
Personnel matters closed out the meeting.
