Hempstead County Primary Election Results

The first election tabulated at the new Hempstead County Courthouse is completed. According to the count Tuesday night in the primary election, in the state senate race, Steve Crowell carried Hempstead County 1,070 to 864 over incumbent Charles Beckham. In the county clerk’s race, incumbent Karen Smith defeated challenger Kelly Dougan 1,149 to 1,121. In the race for constable in DeRoan township, Charles Lester defeated Reyn Brown 597 to 350. In the race for county treasurer, incumbent Judy Lee Flowers polled 316 to 125 for Anna Ward. Both ran as Democrats. In the race for District 8 North Prosecutor, Ben Hale polled 1,558 votes to 1,239 for Blake Montgomery.
In statewide races in Hempstead County, U.S. Senator John Boozman polled 1,202 votes compared to 699 for Jan Morgan, 323 for Jake Bequette, and 59 for Heath Loftis.
In the Attorney Generals race in the primary election, Hempstead County went for Tim Griffin 1,892 to 269 for Leon Jones, Jr.
In the Governor’s Race, Sarah Huckabee Sanders polled 1,954 in the Republican primary in Hempstead County compared to 338 for Francis “Doc” Washburn.
In the Lieutenant Governor’s race in the Republican primary, Leslie Rutledge polled 1,308 votes in Hempstead County followed by 277 for Jason Rapert, 198 for Doyle Webb, 177 for Joseph Wood, 146 for Chris Bequette, and 133 for Greg Bledsoe.
In the Republican primary for Secretary of State in Hempstead County, John Thurston polled 1,697 votes compared to 487 for Eddie Joe Williams.
In the Republican primary for State Treasurer, Mark Lowery polled 1,694 votes in Hempstead County compared to 469 for Matthew W. Pitsch.
In the Democratic primary in Hempstead County, for U.S. Senate Dan Whitfield polled 184 votes compared to 164 for Natalie James and 91 for Jack E. Foster. In the Democratic primary for Governor, Chris Jones polled 223 votes in Hempstead County followed by 94 for James “Rus” Russell, III, 65 for Jay Martin, 54 for Anthony “Tony” Bland, and 13 for Supha Xayprasith-Mays. In the Demcoratic primary for Secretary of State, Anna Beth Gorman polled 253 votes compared to 169 for Josh Price.
In the race for State Supreme Court Associate Justice Position 2, in Hempstead County, Robin Wynne polled 1,335 votes, Chris Carnahan polled 663 votes, and David Sterling polled 629 votes. In the race for State Supreme Court Associate Justice Position 6, Karen Baker polled 1,684 votes in Hempstead County compared to 919 for Gunner DeLay.
In McNab, the 1.5 percent city-wide sales and use tax passed 9 to 1. In the Mineral Springs School Board Race in Hempstead County, Violet Kay Thornton polled 27 votes compared to 17 for Ricky Gamble.
