Jobs there for the taking at job fair

PRESCOTT – There was no shortage of job hunters or companies looking for people to work at Thursday’s job fair, held in the Potlatch Building.

Basically, if someone was seriously looking for a job, there’s no reason they couldn’t have found one at the job fair, full-time, part-time or temporary. Companies had applications on hand and representatives available to discuss what the company does and what it pays. The lowest pay was $15.50 as a starting position, with a raise when the employee becomes permanent. The correction officers jobs for Ouachita Correctional Unit started out at $20 an hour. The more technical and skilled jobs paid more, some with a starting wage of $60,000 a year.

Company representatives all said they were looking for people to work and need people who will show up consistently and not leave after a few paychecks.

Arkansas Division of Workforce had two booths inside the building and its mobile unit outside where people could apply for a job anywhere in the state.

There was a constant flow of people in and out of the building. In fact, job hunters showed up before the scheduled start time of 9 a.m.

As lunchtime drew near, those working the booths were treated to Subway sandwiches.
