Few surprises in primary election


PRESCOTT -There will be three runoff elections after Tuesday’s Preferential Party Primary.
Unofficially, 1,084 ballots were cast in the Preferential Party Primary Tuesday.
The breakdown shows 18 absentee ballots cast, 340 people voted early and 726 hit the polls on election day. A further breakdown shows 736voted for GOP candidates with 329voting Democratic and 19 nonpartisan.
It was no surprise Donald Trump carried Nevada County in the GOP race for president with 632 votes. David Stuckenberg received one vote, Vivek Ramaswamy garnered two votes, Doug Burgum got a vote, Nikki Haley received 70 votes, Ron DeSantis got eight, with Chris Christie getting two and Asa Hutchinson pulling in 16 votes overall.
For the race for State Senate District 3, Steve Crowell easily won the county with 446 votes while Mark Silvey pulled in 257.
For GOP Justice of the Peace District 4, James Roy Cornelius won with 12 votes while Shane Horn got one.
In the GOP JP race for District 7, Kenneth Bailey, with 35 votes, and Regina Irizarry with 33 will be in a runoff. Judy Meyer had 24.
Unopposed republican candidates got 656 votes.
On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden carried the county with 241 votes. Dean Phillips had 25, Marianne Williamson pulled in 15, Armando Perez-Serrato got seven, Stephen Lyons received 13 votes and Frankie Lozada managed four.
Unopposed Democratic candidates got 281 votes.
In the race for Prescott City Council Ward 3 Position 2, Michael Williams got 63 votes, but Carla Haynie retained her seat with 106.
For Ward 4 Position one on the council, Tony Gillard receiving 13 votes. Susie Meeks got nine and will be in a runoff. Karla Smith managed five.
In the race for State Supreme Court Chief Justice Position 1, Karen Baker garnered 284 votes, while Rhonda Wood pulled in 244 and Barbara Womack Webb got 218.
For State Supreme Court Associate Justice Position 2, Courtney Hudson fell to Carlton Jones, 485-469.
For State District Judge District 38, Dana Stone carried Nevada County with 522 votes. Next up was Bryce Montgomery with 249, Angi Taylor with 246 and Ashley Moritz with 42.
The Blevins School Millage vote failed in Nevada County, 43-22.
